That Book Woman received its world premiere at Pioneer Playhouse (DanvilleKentucky) in 2024 as part of the historic theatre's 75th Anniversary Season.  The play was written by award-winning playwright Holly Hepp-Galvan based on a best-selling picture book of the same name by award-winning children's author Heather Henson.

While the book was written and published for young readers, the full-length play is for all ages.  Hepp-Galvan expanded on the world of the book to create a story that celebrates a fascinating yet little known piece of American women's history: the Pack Horse Librarians. The play features strong female characters and a compelling story set in 1930's Appalachia that deeply resonates with modern audiences.

**Note: Julia Mae's pivotal monologue about her life as a Pack Horse Librarian has been selected for

Smith & Kraus' anthology:

The 2025 Best Women's Stage Monologues
